La Serenissima Wednesday, May 07, 2008

The Most Serene Republic, La Serenissima Repubblica. It is really a city like no other. I would love to go back and explore every street corner, every charming shop, admire the lovely homes with beautiful rustic palettes, the bridges, canals, gondolas, traghetti, vaporetti. It's such a blessed place on earth.

Chain Bridge Tuesday, October 02, 2007

Or the Széchenyi lánchíd, the oldest of the seven road bridges that spans the Danube river, connecting Buda and Pest. It was destroyed during the time of the Nazis but rebuilt in its original form.

Goodbye Friday, September 21, 2007

JB and Grace, sharing a private moment. This photo is one of my favourites, but I wish the rest of the people were blurred. The luggage kind of ruined the scene, too.
Grand Market Hall, Budapest

The ground floor sells mostly produce and a variety of foodstuff-- paprika, fruit, Hungarian sausages, and other cured meats. The second floor offers souvenirs, cafes and food stations. I had purchased a small can of foie gras (goose liver pâté) thinking it was only 1000 HUF, only to discover that it actually costs four times as much (that's roughly $23). I am still not used to the way the Europeans write the number 4.

Heroes' Square Monday, September 10, 2007

Went on a whirlwind trip to Budapest with friends. Surprisingly, we had fairly good weather (albeit a bit erratic), which we didn't expect as it was raining the entire week. Blessings.

New Bridge Sunday, July 22, 2007

What a lovely night. Took a walk by the Danube riverbank, we wanted to span all three bridges, but we got lost on the way to Bridge Apollo... walked and walked until our legs hurt. Capped off the night with half a pint of pivo fresh from the tap, and some vino biele. It's enough to give me a buzz that would make for delicious sleep. Dobrú noc!

Smoggy Manila Friday, November 17, 2006

As your plane descends, you pull up the shade of your window and you can instantly tell that you're home. The Makati skyline is enveloped in thick smog, and patches of greenery are very sparse. It's not at all pretty. I'm sure Manila used to be a breathtaking place to come home to.
